Dear Hong Kong, Lululemon and Roy

It’s amazing how things have almost always fallen on my lap here in Hong Kong. It’s no coincidence though, I’ve certainly always aspired to greatness, so over time I’ve created the energy of what i wanted to experience and boy has it constantly come my way. You can do that too. This doesn’t mean there’s no hard work involved, but I must admit that its all worth it, and its all so much fun- I’m talking about late nights and early mornings, tears sometimes, laughter and smiles at the core of what I do.

Through my gift I’ve gotten to collaborate with people and organisations in creating what I would call ‘magic’; the joys of working at Disney haha! I couldn’t help it people. We tell stories on and off social media, in big and small groups, and sometimes, just to each other. That was the case with Dear Hong Kong, a project co-run by Oskar Glutton. Him and his team ‘randomly’ reached out to me sometime back and asked if i could share my story with them. I say ‘randomly’ because we don’t really have a common circle of friends, also, what Dear Hong Kong is up to and what I’m up to rarely crosses paths, unless it’s orchestrated in the heavens. I met Oskar and his team at Tsim Sha Tsui’s K11 Musea one day and we spoke for almost two hours about what I do here in Hong Kong, how I got here and what inspires me. They have completed a write up of our dialogue and will feature it in their release of the Dear Hong Kong magazine, a collection of inspirational stories on how expatriates are making it in Hong Kong. To be honest, I never dreamed I’d be one to write a story about, but its my destiny and I wont deny that I’m enjoying this. You will love the mixture of humour with emotion in that story, so look out for the release here too. As part of the Dear Hong Kong project, Oskar arranged a photo shoot. The photographer; Roy, a South African photographer taking Hong Kong by storm at the moment. The man has barely been here two years but the amount of major work he has done is unsurmountable! You may have already seen some of his work around Hong Kong. Oskar, if you’re reading this, Roy’s story should be in the Magazine! Interesting fact is, Roy is also from Johannesburg, one of my homes. For the photo shoot, we had enlisted the help of my girlfriend with a bit of lighting. It was a really enjoyable experience, having her there beside me (literally) for a few of the shots. Over a year ago she introduced me to Ada Cheong: @saaucyada (Assistant Manager and Head of the Community Pillar at @lululemonhk). I’ve collaborated with Lululemon before but meeting Ada switched things up a bit. Our latest project together came as a result of the current pandemic. Lululemon has released a line that caters for the ‘work from home’ lifestyle, a ground breaking approach in these Covid-19 times. Forward thinking if you ask me. So by invite from Ada, I went over to the IFC store and tried on some of the outfits. In the pictures here (shot by Roy), I am in the Lululemon ‘on the move, anti-ball-crushing pants’ currently on shelves in store. Let me tell you, these are the most comfortable pants I’ve worn yet. Take my word for it, go over there and give them a fit!
